Frequently asked questions
What does a DJ set analyzer do?
It takes a recording of a DJ set and returns its structure: which tracks played, when each one entered, and for every identified track the BPM and key, artwork and links. setlist.id does this from a link, using its own recognition algorithm and partners including ACRCloud and Shazam.
Does the analyzer detect BPM and key?
Yes, for every track it identifies. The key is shown in Camelot wheel notation or classic notation, whichever you prefer, and both the BPM and key come from the identified track's metadata rather than a guess from the mixed audio.
Which platforms does the mix analyzer work with?
YouTube, SoundCloud, Mixcloud, Instagram, TikTok, hearthis and more than 100 other platforms. It is not limited to SoundCloud. Paste the public link to the set; the analyzer reads the audio from there, so there is nothing to upload.
How long does an analysis take?
Typically under five minutes per hour of audio. A six-hour festival archive processes the same way a one-hour mix does, start to finish, and you can leave the page and come back to it in your history.
Can it analyze a recording on my phone or a file on my computer?
Not directly. The analyzer works from a link to a public upload on a supported platform, so upload the recording to SoundCloud, Mixcloud or YouTube first (an unlisted YouTube video works) and paste that link.
How accurate is it?
Commercially released tracks identify reliably, including through blends and pitch changes. Unreleased tracks, private edits and dubplates have no fingerprint in any database and come back as timestamped gaps.
What does it cost?
Pasting a link and seeing the quote is free. Unlocking a full analysis is paid by the hour of audio: hours start at $6 for 5, never expire, and any part we can't identify is refunded.
