YouTube BPM Finder

Paste a YouTube link. Every track in the video comes back named, with its BPM, its key and the time it starts, whether the video is one song or a three-hour set.

You'll see the length and the price in hours before you pay.

Read Set L's Boiler Room, with every BPM.

Each track in the video gets its own BPM

Last updated

A tempo detector run over a whole video averages it into one figure: meaningless for a mix, unreliable for a song with a slow intro. We identify the tracks first, so each one gets its own BPM and key, next to the moment it starts. These rows come from a set identified on setlist.id.

We read two hours of tempo off one link

Plot the BPM column against time and you can see the set's shape: Set L opens around 140, holds at 145 through the first hour, then climbs to 160 by the close. The same set shows where a listed BPM can mislead, explained below.

We take the BPM from the record's release data

The BPM is not counted from the video. We identify each track from the audio, then use the tempo and key listed for that release in music catalogues, Beatport among them. That makes them exact for the record.

The DJ pitched the record
The BPM shown is the tempo the record was released at. A DJ who plays a 124 BPM track at +4% is playing it at about 129, and that is what you hear. The listed figure is still the one you need to find the track, and the one your DJ software reads when you load it.
The listing is half the tempo you hear
Drum and bass, footwork and jungle are often catalogued at half time: 72 for a record that plays at 144. The chart above has three of them. If a number looks half as fast as the music, double it.
The track was identified but no BPM is listed
The track is named and timestamped, but the catalogues hold no tempo for that release. The row says so instead of guessing. This is commonest on small self-released records.
The track has never been released
An unreleased ID or a private edit has no fingerprint in any database, so it has no name and no BPM. It comes back as a gap with a start and end time, and the time inside the gap is refunded.

How the YouTube BPM finder works

  1. 1

    Copy the YouTube link

The watch address from the browser or the Share button. One video at a time; playlists and channel pages are refused.

  2. 2

Paste it and see the quote

You see the video's title, its length and the price in hours before anything is charged, so you know it is the right video first.

  3. 3

    The tracks are identified

The audio is read from the link and matched piece by piece by our own recognition algorithm, drawing on partners including ACRCloud and Shazam. A one-hour mix takes a few minutes.

  4. 4

    Read the BPM and key

Each identified track arrives with its start time; its BPM and key fill in within a minute or two. Switch the key between Camelot and classic notation.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find the BPM of a song in a YouTube video?

Copy the video's link, paste it into the box at the top of this page and follow the quote. The song is identified from the audio, and the result shows its BPM and key next to its name. It works on a music video, a live clip or a lyric video, as long as the song is a released recording.

Can it find the BPM of every track in a DJ mix?

Yes, and that is what it is built for. A two-hour set comes back as a tracklist with a start time on every identified track, and a BPM and key on every one the catalogues list a tempo for. Read the BPM column top to bottom and you can see how the set climbs.

Is the BPM measured from the video?

No. It is the tempo listed for the release that was identified, from music catalogues including Beatport. That is why it is a whole number, and why it can differ from what you hear when the DJ has pitched the record up or down.

Why is the BPM half what I expected?

Some genres, drum and bass above all, are catalogued at half time: a record that plays at 172 can be listed at 86. Both describe the same beat. Double it if it reads half as fast as the music.

Does it show the key as well?

Yes. Every track with a listed key shows it, in Camelot notation (8A, 11B) or classic notation (A minor, A major); you can switch between them. Camelot is what harmonic mixing uses: neighbouring numbers mix cleanly.

How much does it cost?

Pasting a link and seeing the quote costs nothing. Identification is paid by the length of the video, 5 hours for $6, with a 15-minute minimum; hours never expire, and the time we cannot identify is refunded.

Does it work outside YouTube?

Yes. The same box takes SoundCloud, Mixcloud, Instagram, TikTok, Vimeo, Bandcamp and the other supported platforms, and the result is the same: each identified track with its time, BPM and key.
